Dinner and a movie: the classic American pastime for friends, families, and lovebirds since the inception of cinema. It’s the perfect way to make an entire night out of catching the latest premiere that everyone’s talking about, or the best plan when you simply can’t think of anything else to do.
You have plenty of options to level up your next dinner-and-a-show date by skipping the restaurant part altogether and visiting one of Houston’s many dine-in movie theaters, where you can order off an actual menu and eat from the comfort of a recliner (one that’s no doubt way more comfortable than the one in front of your TV at home). Planning to grab cocktails before showtime? Order drinks directly to your seat instead. Some places offer two-seater premium pods, creating a bit more privacy, and even blanket service (think bottle service, but cozier) and heated chairs.
Here are our favorite dine-in movie theaters in the Houston area.
Alamo Drafthouse
Cinco Ranch
Food: Popcorn fans, rejoice. A bottomless tub of the timeless movie accompaniment is on the menu, and you can order churro or truffle parmesan flavors if you’re in a mood for a topping other than butter. Prefer a full meal over a snack? They’ve got a full bar and a wide range of burger, sandwich, salad, and pizza options. Don’t forget to make room for some warm chocolate cookies for dessert. Alamo Drafthouse also offers special monthly menus centered around different film-related themes.
Perks: Regular special screenings of old favorites, cult classics, and little-known movies, which may include exclusive menu items, director or actor appearances, games, themed activities, contests, and plenty more. Alamo Drafthouse prides itself as a space for ardent cinephiles, and it really shows in its events.
